DEKAD NO. 26 SEPTEMBER 11-20, 2017

PHILIPPINE AGRI-WEATHER FORECAST

The weather systems that will affect the whole country are southwest monsoon, intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), low pressure area (LPA), Tropical Depression Maring and Typhoon Lannie.

During the early days of the forecast period, Visayas, Metro Manila, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA and Bicol region and the provinces of Benguet, Pangasinan, La Union and Ilocos Sur will experience cloudiness with rains with thunderstorms due to Tropical Depression Maring. As the disturbance moves away from the country, gradual improvement of weather over Bicol Region and the eastern and central portion of Visayas are expected. During the middle of the dekad, southwest monsoon will bring rains and thunderstorms over MIMAROPA, CALABARZON, Ilocos Region, Metro Manila, and the provinces of Batanes, Bataan and Zambales. The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with possible isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms. At the latter days of the forecast period, ITCZ will bring rainshowers and thunderstorms over Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Winds coming from northeast to northwest will blow over Luzon while the rest of the country will have winds coming from the south to southwest during the early days of the forecast period. After this, southwesterly wind flow is expected to prevail over the western section of Luzon while the remaining portion of the country will have southerly winds. During the second half of the dekad, southwesterly winds will prevail over the whole country. At the latter days of the forecast period, the eastern section of Luzon will have winds coming from the east to northeast while the remaining portion of Luzon will have winds from the southwest to southeast. Visayas and Mindanao will have winds blowing from the southwest.

During the first half of the dekad, the seaboards of Luzon will be moderate to rough while the rest of the country will have slight to moderate seas. The early days of the second half of the dekad will have moderate to rough seas over the western section of Luzon and the remaining portion of the coastal waters in the archipelago will have slight to moderate seas. After this, the coastal waters over the whole country will be slight to moderate during the latter days of the dekad.

The eastern and central equatorial Pacific is in neutral condition.

FARM ADVISORIES
When applying fertilizer, reduce water level to field saturation point, just enough to dissolve the fertilizer. However, do not dry the field. If zinc deficiency symptoms appear, drain the field or broadcast 10-20 kg/ha of zinc sulfate into the flooded soil. Do not topdress while the leaves are wet. The fertilizer will stick to the leaves and may cause leaf burn. Dissolved fertilizer will be lost in the air when the droplets dry. Also, do not topdress when there is impending heavy rain because the fertilizer will be washed out in the field. Keep the fields free from weeds. Weed before fertilizer application.
