DEKAD NO. 23 AUGUST 11-20, 2017

PHILIPPINE AGRI-WEATHER FORECAST
The weather systems that will affect the whole country are southwest monsoon and ridge of high pressure area (HPA).

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with possible isolated rainshowers and thunderstorm are expected over the whole archipelago during the whole dekad.

During the first half of the dekad, southwesterly wind flow will prevail over extreme Northern Luzon. Winds from the south to southwest will blow over Mindanao while the rest of the country will have winds coming from the southwest to west. During the second half of the forecast period, winds from the east to southeast will prevail over Luzon and Visayas while the remaining portion of the country will have winds coming from south to southeast.

The seaboards of the whole country will be slight to moderate throughout the dekad.

The eastern and central equatorial Pacific is in neutral condition.

FARM ADVISORIES

Weeds may be controlled by proper water management. At the start of the vegetative phase, increase water depth to 3-5 cm to control weeds; critical time to suppress weeds is from 25-35 days after transplanting.  Another way to suppress weeds is to   apply appropriate pre-emergence herbicides 3 to 5 days after transplanting and or pull weeds that are resistant to herbicides. 1
Farmers are reminded that there are no curative treatments for diseases, only preventive measures (by planting during the regular planting time, using resistant varieties, sanitation, proper spacing, and proper fertilizer rate). 1 (1http://da.gov.ph)
