DEKAD NO. 29   OCTOBER 11 - 20, 2018

PHILIPPINE AGRI-WEATHER FORECAST

The weather systems that will affect the whole country for the ten-day period are easterlies, northeasterly windflow, tail-end of a cold front, low pressure area (LPA) and intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ).

During the early days of the forecast period, the extreme portion of Northern Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with light rains while the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers. After this, Visayas and Mindanao will have cloudy skies with rainshowers and thunderstorms while the rest of the archipelago will experience good weather except for isolated rainshowers. During the latter part of the dekad, the extreme portion of Northern Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with light rains while MIMAROPA, Bicol, Visayas, Mindanao and the provinces of Quezon and Aurora will have cloudy skies with rainshowers and thunderstorms. The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers.

Northeasterly winds are expected to prevail over extreme Northern Luzon during the first half of the dekad while the rest of the country will have winds coming from the east to northeast. Afterwards, easterly winds will blow over Luzon while the rest of the country will have winds coming from the west. During the latter days of the dekad, winds from the northeast will prevail over the extreme portion of Luzon while the rest of Luzon will have winds from the east to northeast. The rest of the country will have winds coming from the southwest.

The coastal waters over Northern Luzon will gradually become moderate to rough while the seaboards over the rest of the country will be slight to moderate up to the latter days of the first half of the dekad. After this, the whole country is expected to have slight to moderate seas. During the latter days of the forecast period, the seaboards over the extreme portion of Northern Luzon will be moderate to rough while the rest of the archipelago will have slight to moderate seas.

ENSO neutral condition is present in the tropical Pacific.

FARM ADVISORIES:
Harvesting the crop on time is very important to maximize yields and grain quality. Crops harvested too early will have many unfilled and immature grains. Immature grains break easily when milled and will not germinate when used for seed. If crops are harvested late, heavy losses will occur through shattering and bird attacks. Quality will also decrease due to grain weathering, resulting in breakage and downgrading due to undesirable grain color.
