TFAW 2020 puts up fight against viruses and pandemic
22 June 2020

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (DOST-PAGASA) puts up fight against viruses and pandemic on this year’s Typhoon and Flood Awareness Week (TFAW) from June 21-27, 2020 with this year’s theme: “Handa sa Tag-ulan, Iwas Sakit at Sakuna”.

The goal of this observance is to highlight how disaster preparedness and scientific knowledge can be effective to ensure the safety, well-being and economic security of people and environment in human-made and natural hazards such as those brought by rainy season especially as the Coronavirus-19 (CoVid-19) threats continues to affect the country.

In compliance with the guidelines of the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID), DOST-PAGASA will maximize online platforms to conduct its information, education, and communication (IEC) campaigns. Webinars, interactive activities and trivia will be posted through the official Facebook event page: Typhoon and Flood Awareness Week (@tfaw.dostpagasa).

A Climate Outlook Forum will be conducted on 24 June 2020 and will be open for stakeholders and media partners. The state weather bureau will also organize an open-to-public Webinar on DOST-PAGASA 24/7 Operations on New Normal on 26 June 2020. Both activities will be moderated by DOST-PAGASA specialists.

TFAW is observed every third week of June by virtue of Proclamation no. 1535 signed in 2008.
