DOST-PAGASA S&T Release
30 May 2017, Quezon City
ONSET OF THE RAINY SEASON
The occurrence of widespread rainfall recorded in most PAGASA stations monitored in the last five days under Type 1 Climate confirms the onset of the rainy season. Intermittent to continuous rains and thunderstorms, associated with the Southwest Monsoon, will continue to affect Metro Manila and the western section of the country.
Most parts of the country are likely to experience near to above normal rainfall conditions in the next two (2) months (June-July). However, breaks in the rain events may also occur that can last for several days to weeks due to the persistence of the ridge of the North Pacific high pressure area.
PAGASA will continue to closely monitor the situation and updates/advisories shall be issued as appropriate. The public and all concerned agencies are advised to take precautionary measures against the impacts of the rainy season.
For further information, please contact PAGASA at telephone numbers 927-1335 or 434-0955.
