DOST-PAGASA S&T Release
Press Statement
08 June 2018

ONSET OF THE RAINY SEASON

The occurrence of widespread rainfall recorded in most PAGASA stations during the past few days due to the southwest monsoon (“Habagat”) confirms the onset of the rainy season over the western part of the country. These areas, including Metro Manila, will continue to experience scattered to widespread rains and thunderstorms in the coming days
. However, such rain events may be followed by dry periods (also known as a “monsoon break”) that could last for several days to two weeks.

PAGASA will continue to closely monitor the situation, and updates/advisories shall be issued as appropriate. The public and all concerned agencies are advised to take precautionary measures against the impacts of the rainy season.

For further information, please contact PAGASA at telephone numbers 927-1335 or 434-0955.
