The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) is in need of the services of the qualified candidates for the post of one (1) Project Officer II and one (1) Project Development Officer III.

PAGASA in its continuous mission to further enhance its forecasting capability to forecast coastal flooding is executing a project entitled "A Dispersive Long-Wave Model for Predicting Coastal Flooding due to Storm Surges and Surface Waves in Manila Bay". The main objective of the study is to develop an accurate coastal oceanographic model to predict the actual height of storm surges and wind-driven waves in Manila Bay during the passage of tropical cyclones. It also aims to develop a state-of-the-art storm surge model based on the dispersive long-wave model.

Identified expected output of this project will include:
  • Maps of storm surge and surface waves (total water level); under different storm categories and tracks in the study area;
  • Vulnerable areas of coastal flooding due to combined storm surge and wind-wave effects will be analyzed; and
  • Maps of computed hydraulic force due to combined effect of storm surge and wind-waves.
